"Thank you for presenting to our CARSCH organization last week. CARSCH is a group made up of Resident Service Coordinators like me. Our purpose and mission are to enhance the quality of life for our residents. As you know, times of crisis, disruption, or displacement can significantly impact the mental, emotional, social, and physical well-being of an individual. As Service Coordinators, it is our job to ensure that our residents' needs are met and that their lives have as few disruptions as possible. This is where you and your team come into play. Through your courses, we are able to gain both practice and theories to implement during a time of crisis. These courses help us to better prepare, plan, and assist during real-life situations. Ironically, not even a full 3 days after the date of our most recent training, we experienced a major crisis at one of the housing locations located in Southern Connecticut. The crisis consisted of a partial relocation of several floors in a high-rise, as well as a water shut-off for several floors for 24 hours, followed by a second water shut-off two days later, also for 24 hours. Through the coursework and practicum given on March 18th, the RSCs at this site were better able to assist the residents with relocation and alternate sources of water. Additionally, because of the knowledge gained during the training, the RSCs were better able to maintain calm and facilitate every required step much faster and with more confidence.
